Head coaches: Garden Spot: Lauren DiPiano; Southern Lehigh: Don West Jr.
How they got there:
Garden Spot: Coming from a highly talented District 3, the Spartans are as battle-tested as any team remaining in the state tournament. Garden Spot easily won its first-round matchup against Western Wayne, dropping just 36 points. Then, in the quarterfinals, the Spartans won a five-set thriller over Pope John Paul II. Garden Spot is led by Logan Martin, Kelly Martin and Hallie Butler.
Southern Lehigh: The Spartans make their first trip to the PIAA semifinals since 2013. The District 11 champ won its first-round match in four sets against a talented West York team out of District 3. The Spartans then cruised through their quarterfinal against District 1 runner-up Villa Maria Academy. Backed by Cortney Kylish, Mackenzie Feight, Brianna West, Alyssa Adams, and Brooke Adams, Southern Lehigh will look to reach its first state final since 2011.
Head coaches: Bishop Shanahan: Greg Ashman; Parkland: Mike Krause
How they got there:
Bishop Shanahan: The unbeaten Eagles have not been tested in the state playoffs thus far, as the team has swept both state playoff matches. Shanahan defeated Cumberland Valley in the first round and Pennsbury in the quarterfinals. Cara Shultz is considered one of the state’s best, while Maddie Rudolph and Coco Shultz are also highly touted players. Shanahan will look to knock off the Trojans in a third-straight PIAA semifinal.
Parkland: The Trojans qualify for their sixth-straight PIAA semifinal. Parkland has stuck to the same recipe of success for many years: improve every round of the postseason. The Trojans won with ease in a first-round sweep of Central Dauphin, then dispatched a highly regarded Central York in four sets. Heavy hitters Brynn Dreisbach and Amber Resendez will continue to lead the charge for the Trojans. Lauren Ceh has been clutch all postseason and Jackie Malitzki is the definition of a precision passer. Look for this group of players to push Parkland through to a potential finals appearance.
